With all areas of technology growing, including as of late the mobile phone market, this area is growing most certainly exponentially with respect to time.  These smart phones with the touch screen technology, and basically onboard computers in the form of microcontrollers, which do not rely on external support integrated circuits like memory, analogue to digital converters, arithmetic logic units etc. And this is the main difference between a microprocessor and a microcontroller. So all this stuff can be embedded in usually one single chip using risc computing (reduced instruction set computing). And this allows for the small packages.

However the technology probably has the same processing power as  pc computers from the early 90s and in some cases even later.

Whichever way you look at it the mobile market is here to stay, and is molded around  peoples busy lives.
